The group’s research has evolved over the years. However, the overall fascination in how chemistry scales in complexity from few atom systems all the way to driving biological functions or serving to functionalize materials remains at the core of the group’s interest. Major changes in direction have occurred in the setting up of new labs to keep the group’s research current (revitalized). A conscientious effort was made to rejuvenate the group’s research approximately every 10 years. The different changes in research direction also coincided approximately with relocation of the group from the University of Rochester in 1995 to the University of Toronto, and subsequent build up of new labs in Hamburg Germany, with planning starting in 2008, and more recent relocation back full time to the University of Toronto in 2020. The new research concepts and objectives are built upon what we have learned in a previous Miller group epochs but bring new ideas to new areas.
This section serves to introduce the challenges the group has undertaken to get a sense of what is driving our research and our history of research accomplishments.
