PHILIP J. M. JOHNSON

Chemical physics Ph.D. student at the University of Toronto

Home Research Publications CV (PDF) Mathematica Biocurious

Hello,

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. My Ph.D. work is on the ultrafast dynamics and coherent control of protein molecules, specifically the primary event in vision, the isomerisation of retinal in rhodopsin. I was a physics Master's student at Simon Fraser University, where I built an optical tweezers instrument and moonlighted as a molecular biologist. My undergrad degree (also physics) is from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

To find out what I'm doing now, please follow the Research link for news from the lab, or visit the Publications page to read my papers. I have some (maybe) useful Mathematica notebooks in the Mathematica section. I also like to write about science and life as a grad student on Biocurious, a biophysics weblog.
